Foundation for End-of-Life Care Providing Resources to Advance the Quality of Care
Foundation for End-of-Life Care

Transforming dying into the final act of living well.

We are committed to improving end-of-life care for individual patients and their families while supporting fundamental societal change through research, education and advocacy.

Compassion. Care. Dignity. Supporting patients, families and the advancement of end-of-life care.

Resources for a more compassionate end of life.

The Foundation for End-of-Life Care is a not-for-profit organization established by VITAS Healthcare Corporation. The Foundation was created to improve end-of-life care for individual patients and their families, while supporting fundamental societal change.

The Foundation provides resources to advance the quality of end-of-life care for terminally ill patients and their loved ones through research, education, advocacy and direct assistance.

¼
Less than one fourth of terminally ill patients who could benefit from hospice are estimated to use it.

Every person deserves access to compassionate care.

This lack of access denies patients and their families the medical, social and spiritual support necessary for a quality end-of-life experience.

Providing resources where they matter most.

The Foundation provides resources to advance the quality of end-of-life care through research, education, partnerships and direct assistance.

Small acts can make an enormous difference.

Some of the most compelling examples of how the Foundation's resources are used involve extraordinary expenses that lie outside the realm of hospice care but remain critically important to a patient's comfort or peace of mind.

For the patient dying in the middle of summer in a stifling apartment, the Foundation provides funds for a window air conditioner.

For another patient, the Foundation makes it possible for beloved family members living at a distance to fly to the patient's bedside in time for final farewells.

An advisory group that includes front-line caregivers evaluates special grant requests to ensure that resources are directed to the most critical needs in a timely fashion.

“Our goal is to transform dying into the final act of living well. We are committed to improving end-of-life care for individual patients and their families while supporting fundamental, societal change.”

The Foundation serves as a sustaining source of financial support to nurture fundamental change in the way death, dying and bereavement issues are addressed in our society.

This revolution in the way death is perceived and experienced is encouraged through the funding of an array of initiatives — academic and clinical, philosophical and practical, large and small.

The specific mission of the Foundation is to provide resources to advance the quality of care for terminally ill patients and their loved ones.
